Greenpeace is an international organization that has a priority of global environmental campaigns. Greenpeace is based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and has 2.8 million supporters worldwide with other offices in 41 countries. The name of this organization became bound together because of the groups' concern for the planet and opposition to nuclear arms, and became kown as Greenpeace. This is a global campaigning organization that acts to change attitudes and behavior, to protect and conserve the environment and to promote peace. The purpose of this international organization is to defend oceans, protect ancient forests, help protect the polar bear, and create a toxic-free future. Greenpeace catalyzes an energey Revolution that provides the practical blueprint for the world's renewable energy future. The "Forests for Climate proposal" provides for an international funding mechanism that can protect tropical rainforests.

The committee of founders for this organization in 1971 consisted of Dorothy and Irving Stowe, Marie and Jim Bohlen, Ben and Dorothy Metcalfe, and Bob Hunter. Stowe coordinated the political pressure and stayed ashore while the others set sail around the world from Vancouver, Canada. They set sail to "bear witness" to US unferground nuclear testing at Amchitka, a tiny Island off the West Coast of Alaska. This area is one of the most earthquake-prone regions in the world.

Donations are not accepted from governments or corporations anywhere. To get involved, individuals are able to make donations. Volunteering is available from envelpe-stuffing to Amazon survival training. Sailing aboard a Greenpeace ship is also available and can be a life-changing experience.
